North Union: Moody Bible Institute Redevelopment

JDL Development’s “North Union” mixed-use development project is being proposed for a portion of the Moody Bible Institute campus on the Near North Side.

JDL would purchase and redevelop 8.1 acres of land from Moody Bible, which would continue to own and operate an educational institution and media ministry on its remaining 9.4 acres.

Generally bounded by the CTA Brown Line tracks and Oak, Chestnut, and Wells streets, the North Union site is proposed to include a variety of low-, mid-and high-rise buildings that consist of 2,656 residential units, 30,000 square feet of commercial space and approximately 2.5 acres of public open space.

The proposal requires an amendment to an existing Planned Development (PD) designation through a formal process that requires review and approval by the Chicago Plan Commission and the Chicago City Council.
