Webster Bridge Repair Update

April 2022 Update:

CDOT announced in April 2022 that the closure of Webster Avenue over the North Branch of the Chicago River between Ashland Avenue and Dominick Street is expected to last until November 2022. The bridge was closed on August 9th, 2021. CDOT is reconstructing the existing bridge structural steel, bridge approach, bridge houses, roadway lighting, and ADA ramps.

 

Westbound Car Detour: Webster to Clybourn to Ashland to Webster Westbound Truck Detour: Webster to Halsted to Fullerton to Ashland to Webster

 

Eastbound Car Detour: Webster to Ashland to Clybourn to Webster Eastbound Truck Detour: Webster to Ashland to Fullerton to Halsted to Webster.

October 2021 Update:

Effective immediately, the sidewalk on Webster Ave. is going to be closed between Ashland Ave. and Dominick St. for the remainder of the Webster Bridge project, due to the safety concern for pedestrians and cyclists.

Once bridge demolition began, engineers determined that the railings would need to be removed along with the deteriorating holes in the bridge deck, creating the possibility of a safety hazard.  This inconvenience is necessary for a quick and efficient rehab of the Webster Avenue Bridge.

An alternate detoured pedestrian route, Ashland to Clybourn to Webster for the eastbound traffic and Clybourn to Ashland to Webster for the westbound traffic, is shown below.
