Dog Friendly Area at Washington Square Park

The Permit Review Committee of the Landmarks Commission made a decision regarding the question of whether or not a DFA could be installed at Washington Square Park. This decision was rendered after Alderman Hopkins formally requested their determination after submitting a neutral, exploratory application for a DFA. The committee denied the application, and its decision is binding.

  • A letter from Alderman Hopkins explaining the results of his exploratory application to the committee.

  • A letter from the Permit Review Committee denying the application due to the historic significance of the park.

  • The copy of the exploratory and fact-finding DFA application from Alderman Hopkins.

Alderman Hopkins endeavored in this process not in favor of or against the concept of a DFA, but rather to provide interested residents with a definitive answer from the decision-making authority within the city.
